Lucas seemed thoughtful. “Naw, we don’t have to repeat the poem if ya don’t want to.”
Good. Jessie smiled. But then she looked at Lucas, he was looking all… thoughtful. Just like she’d figured. Ugh. Great. Now he thought she was… something. The something in question could be good. Pathetic, awkward, withdrawn, ect. Well… she was, but she didn’t want her only friend at school to think that. Agk.
“Look…” Oh great. She was explaining again. Not again! Everytime she felt like she’d let Lucas down, she explained her reasons, or so it seemed. It got a bit upsetting. She wasn’t the type to explain her thoughts, but she did. Well, to Lucas at least. At least a little. She just didn’t want him thinking she was pathetic. “You sound…” She searched her mind for a synonym for disappointed. Let down. Dissatisfied. Disenchanted. Disillusioned. Upset. Saddened. Frustrated. Hmmm… Nah. Just down play it. “somewhat disappointed.” Pffft, she meant to say “slightly”… whatever.
“I just… “ No. Do not explain it. Not really. “don’t like… ugh. When I actually put my thoughts down, in words… especially ones that don’t rhyme well enough… Well… when I try to express myself, and make it sound nice, and I don’t think it sounds good enough… No one can convince me that it’s good… good enough at least. I’m just self conscious when it comes to…” She squinted at nothing, “My close personal thoughts, I suppose.” She sighed. Well, that was wordy, pathetic, and awkward, but he might not be calling her withdrawn… well… okay he still could. Ugh. “Did you understand that, at all?” She asked, looking at him again.

“Look…”
Lucas perked, hearing her speak. She always seemed so tense, so very tense to him.
“You sound- *pause* somewhat disappointed. I just…*pause* don’t like… ugh. When I actually put my thoughts down, in words… especially ones that don’t rhyme well enough… Well… when I try to express myself, and make it sound nice, and I don’t think it sounds good enough… No one can convince me that it’s good… good enough at least. I’m just self conscious when it comes to… *squint* My close personal thoughts, I suppose.”
Lucas listened intently, absorbing what she had said like a sponge. He was still grinning, not because he thought her inner turmoil was amusing, but because he was learning something new from someone he'd never expected to even talk to. Jessie sighed, glancing up at him. “Did you understand that, at all?”
He regarded her with cool eyes for a moment, quirking a lopsided grin. He tapped his temple in a steady rhythm with a lean index finger. He stopped, still looking at her. "It made sense. Ah think..." He tilted an eyebrow, trying to figure out what to say. "Ah think that... That your poem's awesome. but since Ah'll never be able to convince ya that it's good... Just know that Ah really like it and that ya can't change my mind."
He crossed his arms defiantly, pouting slightly.

“It made sense. Ah think… Ah think that… That your poem’s awesome. But since Ah’ll never be able to convince ya that it’s good… Just know that Ah really like it and that ya can’t change my mind.”
First Jessie smirked. Then smiled. Then Lucas crossed his arms and pouted. Jessie laughed. It was a good thing he had an easy way of cheering her up. Because Jessie always seemed to upset herself when she spoke to him. What was Lucas? Jessie gave it some thought. She squinted at him some more… putting her thumb up in the air, like an artist, viewing him. Words came to her fairly quickly. L, U, C, A, S… She could work with that. Loveable, Unchanging, Contented, Attentive, Sweet-Heart. It worked for her. Now… she was obviously some sort of freak… J, E, S, S, I, E. Jittery, Exasperating, Self-Conscious, Self-Absorbed, Irritating… um… Essence. Eh, it worked for her. She laughed again. Her own private joke. She thought his worked fine, and hers worked too.
“You’re amazing, Lucas. Really.” She said, grinning quite wide. “Oh… and Zach, I think I’ve mentioned him to you, I must have. Well… he wants to come here and threaten you… he told me to tell you that. But don’t worry, he’s harmless… well… usually… anyway.” Jessie said, rolling her eyes. It was usually good when she rolled her eyes. It meant she wasn’t too stressed.
There was probably no point in bringing up that thing about Zach. But it had just come to mind. Once she’d told him about Lucas, he had promised to come down the next day… she’d laughed. It wasn’t possible… and he was usually all talk. Not always, but usually.

Lucas' grin returned when Jessie smiled, then laughed. He didn't get to hear her laugh a lot. It was a special treat. He lost his pouting face, relaxing back in his chair and watched her. She seemed deep in thought, brow furrowed in thinking. Then it went smooth as she laughed at something else.
“You’re amazing, Lucas. Really.”
Lucas shrugged, acting superior. It was true. "so Ah've been told," he replied casually, examining a nail. He smiled, dropping the act.
“Oh… and Zach, I think I’ve mentioned him to you, I must have. Well… he wants to come here and threaten you… he told me to tell you that. But don’t worry, he’s harmless… well… usually… anyway.”
Well, this was unsettling. Threaten him? A slight frown crossed his features, sitting on this new piece of information. Had he done something wrong to Jessie that had made this Zach upset? Nothing came to mind. They'd just simply talked. Lucas definitely was a fighter, he just liked music. And Jessie had said this Zach was 'Harmless... well... usually... anyway.' If there was one way to strike fear into a man's heart it was dot dot dots in succession and nervous pausing. Especially when talking about another man that wanted to hurt him.
The frown left, but he did have a slight worried expression. He rested his elbow on the arm of the overstuffed chair, cupping his chin in his right hand.

“So Ah’ve been told,” Said Lucas, pretending to be superior. Way to be tactful, Lucas. But then he smiled.
Lucas frowned when Jessie mentioned Zach wanting to threaten him, apparently he didn’t understand Zach. He was harmless, it was just… maybe she should be telling Lucas this.
“You’re not worried about Zach, are you? Honestly, harmless as a puppy.” She shrugged. Puppies had teethe, bad example. “Um… He’d never hurt anyone unless they actually did anything. He’d just threaten to hurt you… if you hurt me. That’s all, really… you have nothing to worry about. Unless you plan on pushing me off of something from high up.” Jessie said, smiling innocently. There were other ways to provoke Zach’s wrath, but she didn’t fell the need to mention hurting her emotionally. Zach really got angry about that.
“Seems like I talk about my family all too much…” Jessie said, still holding the locket. “You don’t talk about your family much… just about whatever I talk about.” she said, tilting her head thoughtfully. The beret remained planted. She didn’t plan on mentioning that for ever sentence she said to Lucas about her family, she wrote them a letter. Not for that reason, it just seemed like the correct ratio. She really needed an enchanted quill; hand writing was getting really tiring.
She looked at Lucas closely, examining him. What to ask? Maybe nothing. He could start a topic. There didn’t really need to be a topic, she just liked topics. Perhaps a flaw, perhaps not, she wouldn’t think about it anymore today.
“Lucas, do you have a lot of friends around school?” She asked softly. Not shyly, just softly. She didn’t know why, she just felt like asking. It could be discussed, answered quickly, or ignored. She wouldn’t mind any of the aforementioned choises.

“You’re not worried about Zach, are you? Honestly, harmless as a puppy.” Puppies harbored teeth, didn't they... “Um… He’d never hurt anyone unless they actually did anything. He’d just threaten to hurt you… if you hurt me. That’s all, really… you have nothing to worry about. Unless you plan on pushing me off of something from high up.”
Lucas was worried, but he trusted Jessie. If she said Zach would be easy on him as long as he didn't hurt her, he could deal. He snorted, doing Jessie's patented eye-roll. "Yeah, for fun Ah just looove tossing people off buildings. What a rush."
“Seems like I talk about my family all too much... You don’t talk about your family much… just about whatever I talk about.”
Inclining his head a little, Lucas looked sheepish. His family was pretty... different. He liked talking about them, but mostly the things they did that weren't strange. Like how his brother had this obsession with putting puddy in his dad's slippers. On some summer mornings, all the kids would gather around the window to watch dad curse and scream on the walkway when he got puddy between his toes, thus dropping all the papers and sending them everywhere. Or how his sister sang whenever someone else was singing, whether it was the radio or an actual person. And how his mother spent most of her time reciting her poetry and songs to her plants so they would grow faster. And how his dad obsessed over the Muggle game Guitar Hero. The whole family could play it. Even at expert level. His sister always complained she could never get her pinky to reach the orange button. Which sucked when they were playing together, because she always made Lucas mess up when he yelled at her to use her toe, her butt, something, ANYTHING to press that damn orange button...
Lucas smiled, thinking of his family. They were crazy, but they were a family nonetheless. He looked back at Jessie.
“Lucas, do you have a lot of friends around school?” She asked softly.
Lucas paused momentarily before answering. "No, not really. Sometimes it gets kinda lonely, but that's why Ah have my guitar I 'spose." He looked at her thoughtfully. "And ya."

“Yeah, for fun Ah just looove tossing people off buildings. What a rush.” Lucas said, rolling his eyes. Jessie grinned. Exactly her point, he had nothing to worry about.
But then he sat there, looking guilty. She’d merely mentioned his family. Hadn’t even asked about them, just mentioned that he didn’t talk about them. Well, perhaps pointing out that he didn’t walk about them was a bit awkward. This had better not be one of those days where she decided life would be better if she was unable to speak. Those days were just wretched. And more common the more she talked. She might want to watch it. But she’d probably forget that.
Well he was smiling now, always a good thing. Wait… when she smiled it wasn’t always good. This had better be a good thing. He paused and said, “No, not really.”
Not many friends? How sad. It was entirely upsetting. Lucas should have more friends. He was great. Quiet sometimes… but great. She supposed she wouldn’t have been his friend had it not been for luck. But she’d have thought that over his six years, he’d have lots of friends. But she supposed he’d probably have mentioned them earlier if he had them. Sad.
“Sometimes it gets kinda lonely,” Lonely. Not a word Jessie adored. She liked words, just not all words. She could empathize. “but that’s why Ah have my guitar I ‘spose.”
Jessie smirked. Inanimate objects were good like that. Best friends made of plastic and metal. She had a cat. He was made of… well… not metal nor plastic. He also wasn’t inanimate, but that was entirely beside the point. He wasn’t a person, and that was the point.
“And ya.” He said. She blinked. She had totally not been paying attention. Her? Her what? Oh... friends. Right. She kept Lucas from being lonely all the time? Well, some of the time, but kept him from always being lonely. Okay… she just could not word that correctly. Moving on…
How was she supposed to respond to that? It was sweet. Well, she thought of it was sweet. She thought of a lot of what Lucas did as sweet. She must come up with a new word, sweet was becoming overused. Gentle? Never mind, she’d stick with sweet.
“Thanks, Lucas. That makes me happy.” She said. She was so close to saying that she had her cat, and Lucas. But she was not going to focus on herself. Well… she was, just not out loud. He made a comment about himself… from a question she asked… but still. She shouldn’t counter everything about him with something about herself. She let go of the locket, folding her arms.
“Topic of choice?” She asked. She wanted to talk. But she didn’t want to regret what she said. So hopefully he wanted to talk. About anything. Really, anything. She just liked talking to people. Lucas particularly.

Jessie went quiet for a while. Lucas continued to smile as he watched her. She seemed almost flustered, but touched at the same time. “Thanks, Lucas. That makes me happy.”
He nodded his head. "Ah should be thanking ya. Ya make me happy." They sat in companionable silence for a while. Lucas didn't feel awkward with it anyway. It was the kind of silence that friends sat in when they were both thinking. It was reassuring in a way. Like he knew they both were thinking of something to say so they could continue their chat. It made him happy.
It was Jessie who broke the silence. “Topic of choice?” Lucas adopted a thoughtful look, tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth and eyes skyward.
What were good things to talk about? Well, almost anything he supposed. He snapped his fingers, settling on a reasonable topic. "Ah remember ya said ya enjoyed your Mythology class. How's that goin'?"

“Ah should be thanking ya. Ya make me happy.” Lucas said. Awwwe. Okay, so maybe Jessie was more apt to say that out loud if she weren’t involved in the conversation. Bystanders could say things like that. One of the involved parties, could not. Well… without repercussions. That was one of the few upsides to being on the outside of a conversation, you could comment without being held accountable. She wouldn’t say it, but she was thinking it. She had have a kitten-hugging-cute-thing-gawking-at-sweet-thing-admiring-romantic-thing-adoring side. She just didn’t show it openly very often.
Lucas looked thoughtful when Jessie asked him for a topic. He even stuck his tongue out the corner of his mouth and looked up. It reminded her of an artist remembering a scene. He was an artist, but she was thinking more like a painter. Perhaps artist wasn’t the word, but he did make poems and music, those were art… just not the most tangible kinds.
Then Lucas snapped, perhaps he’d chosen a topic? “Ah remember ya said ya enjoyed your Mythology class. How’s that goin’?”
Jessie smirked, “I also recall you saying it was boring.” She said, giving him a slightly impish look. But she sighed, “Yeah, it’s great. I really love Mythology, although you don’t apparently understand it. I’ve been reading ahead in my textbook. You don’t know who Pygmalion is, by any chance?” She asked, he probably didn’t so she waved a hand to dismiss the question, “Either way… that’s my Cat’s middle name. Spelled a bit different… but still. I considered Pyramus… but I couldn’t remember it at the time. I only gave my cat a middle name three years ago. Pyramus and Thisbe were the earlier versions of Romeo and Juliet. I’m sure you know who they are, right?” She asked, tilting her head a bit, smirking.
If he didn’t know who Romeo and Juliet were, Jessie would gawk. Positively gawk. Everyone knew who they were. Whether you liked the story or not was usually the real question. Common quotes from the book ran through he head. The one about a rose poked at her mind. She liked that one especially.

“I also recall you saying it was boring.”
Lucas crossed his arms. "'cuase it is," he mumbled, acting like a child who had just been scolded.
“Yeah, it’s great. I really love Mythology, although you don’t apparently understand it. I’ve been reading ahead in my textbook. You don’t know who Pygmalion is, by any chance?”
He took a stab in the dark. "... was he by chance a pig that happened to be a mammal?" It was understandable.
“Either way… that’s my Cat’s middle name." Oops. Smooth, Lucas. "Spelled a bit different… but still. I considered Pyramus… but I couldn’t remember it at the time. I only gave my cat a middle name three years ago. Pyramus and Thisbe were the earlier versions of Romeo and Juliet. I’m sure you know who they are, right?”
Lucas chewed his lip. "Yeah, the two lovers in that play by that famous guy." Being blunt was a blessed thing to have at times. This was not one of those times.

“’Cause it is,” Lucas mumbled. Pfft, if he thought it was so boring, he shouldn’t have asked. “… was he by chance a pig that happened to be a mammal?” No. He was not a pig. A mammal, yes. Pig, no. “Yeah, the two lovers in that play by that famous guy.”
Ouch. Literary professors would roll about in their graves. Jessie’s Uncle would laugh. Well, one of them would, the other wouldn’t waste his time on this conversation, except that his niece was in it. Jessie sighed.
“Well… yes.” She said slowly. It was true, it was about two lovers, it was from a play, and a famous man did write it. But that was like asking, “What is the ocean?” And saying, “Water, from some higher power.” Jessie scowled. She wasn’t about to argue finesse with Lucas. Not nearly.
The words, “Your dumb.” Also came to mind. Problem was, he wasn’t, she didn’t think so, and that would in no way further the conversation. She liked it better when he felt threatened by Zach.
“Way to go, Lucas. Ask me something, and shoot it down when I answer.” She mumbled under her breath. She took a deep breathe and closed her eyes. “Yeah. A famous guy. Most people call him William Shakespeare. But I’m not talking about Shakespearian plays. Mythology. Do you know who- Oh never mind. I won’t ask.” She was about to ask about her favorite Greek/Roman god, but what was the use? If he knew, he’d belittle it. And if he didn’t… well, then he wouldn’t. “I like Mythological names, their pretty interesting sometimes. You’ve got the basics, Ares, Zeus, Apollo, Aphrodite, Hera, Dionysus, Poseidon, Hermes… or the heroes, Theseus, Perseus, Hercules… The titans, Rhea, Cronos, Epimetheus…”
It was no good listing the names. Jessie knew the stories. The god of wine. The goddess of family. Harvest. Wisdom. Everything stood for something special, and she loved that. The stories willed with things that were real, explained in fanciful ways. She didn’t think anyone could find them boring. She had. She gave Lucas a dull stare, resting her chin on the edge of her palm, her elbow on her knee.

“Well… yes.” She said, sounding hesitant. She mumbled something and looked upset. Lucas couldn't help but feel irritated. “Yeah. A famous guy. Most people call him William Shakespeare. But I’m not talking about Shakespearian plays. Mythology. Do you know who- Oh never mind. I won’t ask.”
Lucas chewed on his lip in annoyance. Hadn't something similar to this happened before?
“I like Mythological names, their pretty interesting sometimes. You’ve got the basics, Ares, Zeus, Apollo, Aphrodite, Hera, Dionysus, Poseidon, Hermes… or the heroes, Theseus, Perseus, Hercules… The titans, Rhea, Cronos, Epimetheus…” She stopped listing names and gave him an empty stare. His grin had left his face earlier and he kept her gaze briefly, before dropping it to look outside. The look on her face made him feel like he was a school boy who had been scolded for the wrong answer. He understood that he and Jessie saw the world differently. Everyone did. He supposed negativity just bothered him to an extent.
He did know some Mythology things, he just wasn't as avid as Jessie was. But she seemed irritated with him for not knowing much about it. But he wasn't going to assume anything. As his mum said, 'Assuming made an ASS out of U and ME.' Which was very true most of the time.
And the other thing bugging him was that Jessie was so serious. Like an adult in the body of a girl. Sometimes he wondered if she knew how to have fun. He didn't trail her like a bloodhound, so he wouldn't know. And it was none of his business unless she wanted him to know. And the comment about the Zach guy had unnerved him. Sometimes he wondered if she was trying to corner him to feel awkward. Which sounded silly, because they'd only spoken once before this. But the same thoughts and feelings like these resurfaced each time.
Lucas blinked, shifting on the couch. So what if the silence was awkward? He wasn't too happy right now and was never good when it came to arguments.

Lucas was chewing his lip. That couldn’t be good for you. Jessie blinked. He looked annoyed now. Great. Just great. Jessie was just stupid. Always. Seriously. You’d think a girl could keep from alienating her only friend. Honestly. You’d think. But no. Not Jessie. She was simply not skilled in that aspect. But excuse. Very poor. She couldn’t blame her idiocies on nothing. She had to own up to something. How was it that she always blamed herself for everything? Was it never the other person’s fault? Well… when it was, she got annoyed. And then they got annoyed with her for being annoyed. And then she blamed herself for getting annoyed without enough grounds. Wasn’t that what had just happened? Something like that. Jessie sighed. She couldn’t explain herself again. She’d done that earlier, and felt awkward then too. Honestly. One conversation. One? Without alienating Lucas? They’d only had two. She must have done something the last time too. Maybe that was why they hadn’t talked for months. He was avoiding her. Yep. That was it. Lucas sort of liked Jessie, but he had a limit. She envisioned a “Jessie meter”, Lucas’ was full.
There was a vague chance she was tearing up. But she wasn’t sure. Couldn’t be. Why would she? Oh, she knew why. She always knew why. That was because she not only knew what was going on inside her head, but she understood it. No one else had that lucky little position. It wasn’t as if she enjoyed losing friends. She had enough trouble making them to begin with. One friend? One conversation? Couldn’t she manage that? Why did she always get herself worked up over these things? Why? She liked Lucas. One conversation, and she knew that much. He was nice to her… that was all it took. She liked more than that, but really… that was the main point. How had she managed to go from jovial and excited this morning… to ruining not only her own mood, but Lucas’ as well? What was wrong with her? She was stupid. Hadn’t she already decided that? Yeah. She had.
She briefly considered apologizing, but she’d done it before. No dice. She was getting worked up over what appeared to be nothing. But it meant a lot to her. Really, she didn’t ask for too much. Did she? One friend, one simple conversation. She’d have to work on her conversationalist skills. She hardly ever fought with her family. What was so special about them? Exceptional levels of tolerance? She supposed so. Maybe a simple reply. He just looked so annoyed. She had been a bit harsh. But really, he asked her about Mythology. So why must he belittle it? She knew he found it boring, that was fine, an opinion he could have. But when she was so… interested in it, couldn’t he… what? Couldn’t he what? Had he really done anything wrong? She was seriously giving this too much thought. Lucas must think she was insane, sitting there for so long. She didn’t know how long, probably not too long, but one could never tell. But what had he said? He’d answered her question. Just not all too seriously. So he wasn’t too seriously. That was fine. She wasn’t always serious. It was just how he said it with such… callous. But could he be expected to handle it with delicacy? What did he care? It was her favorite topic, or close to, but him? He liked music. She should have asked about music. It was all a trick question. He asked about it, but she should have realized it would end badly.
And seriously, could she not find fault in Lucas? He had asked. Oh, this was going no where. She just kept going in circles… or triangles… polygons… a never ending line. Oh, look, Snickers was jumping down the stairs. Someone must have let him out. Jessie sighed. At least he never got very angry with her. She looked at Lucas. Nice eyes. He wasn’t happy with her, but he still have nice eyes.
She opened her mouth a little, but gave it a bit more thought. She was not going to say something too stupid, but if she thought about it any more, she wouldn’t say anything at all. The silence was getting quite uncomfortable. “Sorry for being snappy. I just get defensive about things when I find them really intriguing. I shouldn’t be defensive. I just… like stories.” She shrugged. Rats. She’d apologized, and explained. But at least it was brief. It was brief right? She thought about it for a split second. Three… no, four sentences. Oh well. She looked away from Lucas in time to see someone carrying something large out the exit.
“Snickers!” She groaned rather suddenly. The, adorable, yet proactive cat bounded out into his escape. Perhaps this was to make up for Jessie never allowing him to roam the castle freely. So she had a problem with her cat getting lost… should he really be running away of his own accord? No! She worried instantly, a look of distress passed over her face. All thoughts of being an idiot, and making Lucas angry with her, vanished. If only she could have done that a few minutes ago. Really, Snickers was just multitalented. And the most adorable Turkish Van Jessie had ever laid eyes on. She jumped from her chair, beret still planted, running to the painting, which had closed by then. A quick password, and an annoyed painting, and she was on her way to finding her cat, who had managed to get about fifteen feet down the hall. But at least he was still in sight.

Lucas moodily kept up his staring out the window. She was his friend, yes. Friends had arguments, yes. So this was probably normal. He didn't know who was at fault and frankly didn't care. He tried to look at this the positive way: because he and Jessie were arguing it meant they had really forged a bond. As said before, friends argued. He turned to look at her. She seemed upset that he was upset with her for being upset with him about Mythology.
God, fights were pointless sometimes.
“Sorry for being snappy. I just get defensive about things when I find them really intriguing. I shouldn’t be defensive. I just… like stories.”
His eyes softened as he regarded her. Jessie, the strange. He had to smile at that thought. He was pretty strange himself so they were a perfect match. His thoughts turned serious as he thought about her more. Why was she so scared of what others thought all the time? He wanted to pry, but didn't think the time would be appropriate just yet. He didn't care what others said. It was just easier to go on during the day. But there came that thought that everyone was different, was their own person. Which was awesome, because if everyone was like Lucas he'd get bored with them. He thought of Jessie as a challenge. She was so different from the other people he had met, and he hadn't met a lot. He wondered if it was because of her past. He remembered her talking about her mother being killed and then being so depressed afterwards. Parents were basically a necessity to every child's life. But again, he was not going to pry. He decided to let her do the talking if he was going to offend her so much. It would avoid argument, and Lucas was capable of speaking with what he was given. Part of him realized he was doing this because he wanted to keep Jessie as a friend. He'd have been out the door by this time with other people, already forgetting what they had told him to bring his mood down. He wasn't convinced he could change anything about Jessie. In fact, she had told him so earlier. But he really didn't want to. Her Jessie-ness made her Jessie. And what about him? Lucas felt he didn't give himself enough attention sometimes. But it didn't seem to affect him. Did it? He did know he was upbeat and liked to look at things rationally. He didn't get flustered that often. He liked his music. But sometimes when he was talking to Jessie, he felt like he was walking in a mine field. and that was silly because they'd only spoken twice. But he had been more aware of it this time. Maybe if he just didn't say anything at all. His opinions seemed to not agree with her, although she told him her opinions all the time. That was what bugged him the most about the argument. And he supposed that was what bugged him the most about Jessie. They were talking about things had a plot line back to her, save when they were talking about his family and his music. Lucas was polite, he'd give himself that. He'd just inquired how her classes had been going and then just said he didn't agree with it. He found it boring. And she got upset with him. That had confused him which had upset him the most. Now she saif she got defensive over the things she enjoyed. He could also understand that. He was passionate about music, but he didn't go apeshit when someone said they didn't like it.
He shook his head as she got up, realizing he had been zoning out. “Snickers!” And she was off, behind the painting and gone after her cat. With his beret too. That made im chuckle, wondering how people would react to a girl running around the school with a beret on her head. Try as he might, he couldn't be angry with her at the moment. A little confused, but not angry. A pointless argument for pointless people. It wasn't like they were kings and queens. He was suddenly very happy, snatching his guitar from the side of the chair and playing a song. He would let Jessie come back to him and he'd tell her what he had just been thinking. Because friends told each other what they were thinking. What if she didn't like it? Well, oh well. He was game to listen to what she had to say about him anytime, hopefully she'd be game to listen to him.
Sitting in the common room, strumming notes on a sunny day. With a friend roaming the hallways finding her cat with his hat on.
What a perfect day.
((No, that was not supposed to be sarcastic. I mean it.))

Snickers wasn’t the slowest cat, nor was he homely. He liked adventure. So when he saw Jessie coming after him, he sprinted down the corridor. Jessie’s exasperation could be heard down the hall as she broke out into a run. She was beginning to think Snickers was trying to distract her. Once she cornered the cat she stopped. He swished his tail back and forth, letting out a meow just for the sake of it.
“What did I ever do to you? Hmm, Snickers? I feed you-“
“Meow.”
“Oh hush. Just because it’s dry cat food. You can’t be that picky.” Jessie said, rolling her eyes as she interpreted the meow as she thought best. Snickers meowed again as in disagreement. She took a few steps forward, leaning down. Snickers look at her defiantly. He wasn’t trying to escape, because they both knew he could. Perhaps he was making a point. It wasn’t as if Jessie could speak Cat language. She sighed, lifting the cat while balancing on her feet as her knees were bent. Her balance failed and she fell backward, knocking off the beret. She stared at it. “Hmmm… Lucas’s hat.” She said, taking a deep breathe afterward. “I really shouldn’t…” She moved her jaw a bit grabbing at the hat and restoring it’s position atop her head. “C’mon, Snickers, maybe we can go for a walk… sometime.”
Jessie made her way back to the Hufflepuff painting. She was not welcomed, but her entrance did open. Apparently running in and out a door was not the way to make friends. She shrugged, positioning her cat higher up.
Lucas was… playing his guitar. Jessie smirked. He did that. A lot. It was good. She didn’t have an outlet, so she couldn’t really make a comparison. But it was good to see him playing, hear him playing. Not only would it have cheered Jessie up, had she still be upset, but it meant he wasn’t upset. She supposed he could still play while upset, but it just didn’t seem like that was the case. Time… not to analyze things.
Jessie sat down in the chair she’d left recently, still holding Snickers. She didn’t want to interrupt Lucas, so she just sat there, smiling as she stroked her pet’s head. Snickers curled up in his owner’s lap.
