Kakashi took the girl's hand and led her down the stairs. She smiled and looked down, hiding her red face. They got nearer to the entrance of the Great Hall and when they were only a few feet from the door, Shani lay her hand atop the hand on hers. She started to say something but Kakashi pushed open the door and led her in.
They sat for awhile until Kakashi asked her to dance. She hadn't danced with him since the New Years Ball and she had dreamed of it every night since. She rested her head on his shoulder and let out a sigh.
As the dance ended, she looked up at him. "Kakashi?"
He looked down at her, waiting for what she wanted to say.
"I think I love you," she said quietly. He asked her to repeat it and she did, only a little louder for she didn't dare go any louder.
Kakashi looked down at her with astonished eyes. "You. . . love. . . me? Me?"
"Yes."
"I. . . Don't know what to say."
"You could say it back," she said with a smile.
He closed his eyes for a brief second. "But that would be lying. You're my best friend. I've never seen you as anything more. Nor will I ever. I'm sorry."
As he spoke, Shani dropped her arms from around him and backed away. She had streaks of water running down the side of her face. When she didn't think she could take it anymore, she turned and ran. Ran to the farthest corner of the dance room and crashed in a corner, head against her knees.
Kakashi went to her to try an comfort her but she only looked up and told him to get lost. He walked away, looking back only once.

Off to the side Josh stood watching the scene play out. He leaned against the wall as the girl tilted her head to say something, and then the boy got a slight shock to his face. It wasn't normal for Josh to snoop in on other peoples buisness but it was right there in front of him. How could he not? The only thing that distracted him some was the girls that walked by and smiled at him, beging for him to come to their aid. Oddly enough Josh wasn't that kind of guy, he didn't like girls throwing themselves at him. It was rather weird to him actually.
He looked down at his dress shoes as the girl ran off. He was wearing dress pants, a white button up shirt that was untucked, and at the sleaves rolled up to his elbow. His red tie was loosened and he looked ragged. But oddly sexy with his black hair slightly roughed too.
The straight hair came down and covered one of his green eyes. He pushed it out of the way and caught a glance of the girl in the corner. She looked so sad, and his heart felt for her. For some odd reason he wanted to go talk to her. Try to see what had happened, and if he could help in anyway.
He slowly walked towards her and put out his best smile. Once there he noticed her looks, she was fairly pretty to him, but seemed a little young for his own taste. He didn't go much younger then a year at this age, since it seemed that all the guys that went younger wanted more then just a girlfriend.
He sat down next to her and looked over at her "Hi. Im Josh." he stuck out his hand and grinned. How was he going to get her to talk? Get her to trust him to be a friend? "I know I am not much, but you want to dance? And maybe talk while we do so?" he laughed slightly and shrugged "I got stud up tonight, the girl i was supose to meet kind of forgot I guess..." His voice was friendly and gave sincere tones.

Shani looked up, about to yell at Kakashi once more. When she saw another boy with black hair and green eyes. She groaned and put her head back on her knees.
"Please just leave me alone, Josh. I would rather just sit here at this point. Besides, this is on a whole other level from just getting stood up." A new wave of sniffling came over her and she rubbed her eyes. To do this, she had to look up. She saw the sincerity in his face and brushed the tears from her cheeks.
"Well, I guess it couldn't make anything worse."

Josh smiled as she reconsidered his offer "Good." He stood up and then reached out his hand towards her to help her up. "Now lets just get to the dance floor."
He was being as nice as he could. He didn't want to pressure her into telling him everything that had happened. He thought he would just get her on the dance floor and he could dance with her. From there they could talk, possibily, if she wanted too. Sometimes just having someone there is better then talking about it.
((ooof my muse! *glances around* where did it go?!))

Shani nodded slowly and took his hand. She couldn't even recall his name at the moment. Maybe offering her own would prompt his?
"I'm Shani," she stated quietly. She lifted from her heap on the ground and let her gaze fall to her feet and the floor they stood on. "Why are you being so nice?" It was simply her instinct not to trust people so easily. Especially ones who seemed to be so nice. Kakashi, at the moment, was a prime example. She had trusted him fully and he had crushed her when she was vulnerable. Jerk.

"Nice to meet you Shani, Im Josh." he started to move to the dance floor when he heard her question. He turned to face her and smiled "Looks like you need someone nice right now. And I am generally a nice guy."
It was true, the guy could never really be mean to someone unless they had asked for it. He turned his head to look at the dance floor. A lot of people were dancing and talking, having a nice time. And there she was crying. He felt horrible for her. He nodded towards he dance floor as a slower song came on "Come on..." he smiled and made his way tot he dance floor, holding her hand.

She followed him out onto the floor silently, still resting her eyes on her shoes. Her hand was in his and it was warm. She didn't want to be happy right now. It would completly ruin her sadness. She again, thought of when Kakashi had held her hand the same way as he led her onto the dance floor. She closed her eyes tighter and sniffled as a tear ran down her cheek. She pulled her hand back and stopped walking.
"I... I can't. I'm sorry." She let a few more tears slip past her closed lids before bringing her hands up to her face.

Josh stopped as he felt Shani stop. He turned his head and towards her and smiled slightly "We don't have to... we can just talk." He wanted to help her in anyway he can. And if just talking he would just talk, but if she asked him to leave her a lone. He would have no choice but to back away.

"I thought I loved him," she said between tears. "I really thought I did. He was so special to me. But I wasn't to him. I was nothing." She lifted her head to look at Josh. "Nothing..."
She turned around and sat down at the closest table. She folded her arms on the table and lay her head down. She had no idea why she was talking to a stranger about her problems but it felt good to get it off her chest. To tell someone.
