Elphaba Thropp, an 8th year student in Hogwarts, sat curled up on the window ledge in the Ravenclaw common room. Her long, raven black hair dangled down past her emerald green face as she turned a page in her book, "The Memoirs of the Witches of Eastport." Elphaba had been sitting there reading for hours now, not daring to leave her secluded ledge for fear someone will spot her.
She had always been an outcast. Even from the very moment she had been born, Elphaba had been an outsider. From the moment she was born green, no one, not even her own father had loved her... Or accepted her....

Danny and Muffin had returned from a good stroll about the castle. Muffin had been bugging him in his feline way to get out and stretch a bit. As they walked in, Danny winced at the amount of light in the room. "Ykyeh?" he complained, "Ajano desa eh lusa eh rana, ed ek cu pnekd!" Focusing for a moment, he covered all the windows in a shroud of darkness, reducing the light in the room to something reminiscent of movie-theatre lighting. He smiled and went to take a seat. As he did, he pulled out a few gadgets he had been working on spread them across a coffee table he had pulled close to himself. He took a few small instruments from his robes and began fiddling with all the components about the table. Muffin crawled underneath the table for a good nap.
((Ykyeh? = Yik-YEH = Again? Ajano desa E lusa eh rana, ed ek cu pnekd! = a-JAH-no DAY-sa AY LOO-sa EH RA-na ED EK KOO pin-EKT = Every time I come in here, it's so bright!))

As the light dimmed, Elphaba found she could no longer make out the words on each page of her book. That would not do. Growling angrily, she straightened up, her loose raven black hair cascading down her back. Even in the darkness the anger in her dark brown eyes was evident and she glared at the boy who had just entered the common room.
"What the bloody hell was that for?" she spat at him, her eyes narrowing dangerously at him. Who ever this kid is, she thought to herself, he's gonna have hell to pay...

Danny's head lifted to face the owner of the voice. A green-skinned witch was staring daggers at him. "Oh?" he smiled, and lifted the barrier of shadow from her window, "I didn't see you there. Please forgive me." Despite her obvious anger, he wanted to try and keep a civilized conversation. It was only a mistake, after all. "I'm sorry, I have a sensitivity to light, and saw no one else in here... Which brings up a question... Were you... hiding there, by any chance? There are better, not to mention warmer, places to read..." Muffin didn't move from under the table. Humans would quarrel over such pointless things.

Elphaba raised an eye at the boy's evasion of light. That was an odd sensativity. Of course she was no one to talk, after all, she was allergic to water. The boy's persistence to know why she was hidden suprised Elphaba however. Few people even cared enough to ask. Most instead just labeled her as a freak and moved on.
"I needed somewhere hidden away, where no one would notice me.. Obviously that didn't work," Elphaba found herself telling him. "But why would you care?" she added, her over protective, sarcastic side kicking in.

Danny smiled. "Well, I care because I want to. Everyone needs someone to care about and someone to care about them," he said, entering what he had referred to as "Dr. Phil" mode, after a Muggle TV psychotherapist (it was as though he was Dr. Phil on the inside, only with a more Russian or German accent), "Unless I'm gravely mistaken, and I rarely am, you were hiding in the window so you would not be noticed by anyone. Now I don't mean to offend, but you seem to be a bit of an outcast. Truth be told, I am myself, so I would know." Muffin rolled his eyes - a human gesture he picked up from Danny, whom practiced it often. Here he went again, picking people apart. He was good at it, but did it so much it was becoming monotonous.

"Nice observation," Elphaba said rolling her eyes, a movement she had noticed the cat do just moments ago. Smart cat, she thought. Annoying boy... Outcast or not, she found his inscecent comments grating. Elphaba knew she was an outcast,no one needed to tell her that. She had been WELL aware of it from the moment of birth.
"I really don't need somewhere to care for me also," she muttered as she crossed her green arms across her body. "I've lived a good 18 years now without anyone..."

Yes, and as such has become quite hardened to the fact that, though she denies it, needs a friend or two, he thought calmly, Looks like I'll have to be a tad more assertive. "Yes, I understand what you're getting at. However, don't mistake me for just some fool stating the obvious," Danny said, asserting himself, yet still remaining calm, "Trust me, I've lived with no one but my cat for a good long time as well, and I know that no one can live life alone. You may have convinced yourself of the converse, but everyone needs a friend or two, even just to be there, to actually care and not cast them aside. I can tell, just through the way you act, that your being alone for as long as you have has made you cold and distrusting of others." He began to gather his things. "Well," he said nonchalantly, scooping the pieces and parts from the table into a cloth bag, "Do what you please, but if you need someone to talk to, I'll be around." He got up abruptly and headed for the dorm, his large feline friend staying behind. He knew where Danny was going, so it didn't quite matter. He hopped up onto the chair Danny had previously occupied and curled up.

Elphaba watched with a raised eyebrow as the boy, who she had never even bothered to learn his name, left. Although some of the points he had brought up had been quiet correct, he hadn't even begun to scratch the surfuce. The walls that the green witch had built around herself were too solid to be shaken by one boy telling her things she already knew...
"Whatever..." she muttered to herself quietly.
With a shake of her raven haired head, Elphaba slowly stretched her gangly green legs and stood up. Putting her book under her arm, she walked over silently to the cat. She had always felt a pull towards animal. Maybe because they didn't judge her as easily as human...
"Hello there," she said quietly as she stretched an emerald hand out towards the pretty creature, to allow it to smell her. And, hopefully, let her pet it...

Danny was now upstairs in his dorm, with his materials spread out on his bed. Crackles and sparks were occasionally heard from up in the dorms.
As the green girl's hand ((yes, believe it or not, cats are NOT colourblind)) reached toward him, he opened his golden eyes and purred (to the best of his ability) to let the girl know he was enjoying the attention. As he did, he shifted about and began fervently kneading the cushion of the chair he rested upon.

Ignoring the odd sounds from above(Elphaba had heard wierder of course though... This was after all, a school full of teenagers.), Elphaba carefully stroked the cat's backside. As the cat began to knead, a small smile broke out on upon the witch's face and she continued to pet the lovely creature.
"You're such a sweetie," she muttered softly to the cat. "What's your name?"

This baffled Muffin a bit. This human was asking for his name, but he wasn't capable of human speech. He resisted the urge to roll his eyes, and instead looked for anything that could help. Perfect ((If anyone says Purrfect, I'll strangle them myself))... Danny's machina assistant. He poked at it a few times, attempting to put enough force on the switch. However, the large, pear-shaped machina merely moved a bit each time he poked it. He looked at the girl and gave a pleading "mraah" so she would turn it on.

"What...?"
Knitting her forehead together, Elphaba watched as the cat, although for some strange reason she wanted to call it a Cat, try to press a strange object. It obviously was intelligent and wanted her to press the button, so she silently obliged and pressed the strange object, her wand in quick reach in case somthing would have happened..

As the switch depressed to the "on" position, the football-sized, yet pear shaped machina sprung to life. Probably twenty separate fins unfolded along its wider end and began rotating as the backside glowed. As it did, the machina rose into the air, making a jerky motion every now and again as it circled the girl. "Bancuhym yccecdyhd - ymm cocdasc yna ehdald yht vihldeuhehk," it chirped in a metallic tone. Muffin meowed and its attention was immediately directed to him. "Myhkiyka cahcunc vun vamiha uh," it chirped and made a meowing noise. It seemed to have a short conversation in feline with Muffin until it zipped back over to the green girl. "Language settings adjusted - English, United Kingdom. Greetings, how may I help you?" it asked the green girl. The floating machina was very clearly Danny's personal assistant. Why Danny didn't take it with him, Muffin didn't care. He was using it to speak with this girl.

Blinking in suprise at the machine's ability to come to life at Hogwarts(she had been under the assumption that most machines did not work at school due to the magic in the air), Elphaba glanced at the cat. Out of all the things she had expected the assistant to do, addressing her was not one of them.
"Ahh... Hello," she replied finally with a raised eyebrow at the machine. "I was just wondering about this cat's name," she paused and patted the cat again. "before you sprung to life..."
