Elphaba Thropp stood a few good yards away from the edge of the lake just staring at its black abyss. Her black cloak flapped in the slight wind and her tall witch's hat barely stayed on as she wondered what it was like. What it could have been like if she had been normal. She had always wanted to feel what it was like to be completely submerged in water, but every fiber of her being knew that would be disasterous. In fact, it would probably kill her.
Kill herself, now that was a thought she had found herself thinking from time to time when times got rough. But that stubborn, cocky streak in Elphaba would not allow her to do that. She still wondered once and awhile.
As the breeze began to pick up and the water on the lake began to toss and churn with the impending storm, Elphaba turned away. She did not have the desire to feel that pain yet.. Not yet...
So she wandered back towards the school, keeping an eye out for other students.

Stupid bastard! Who does that retard think he's messing with?
Thoughs of self-pity and a bloody revenge flowed through his mind, as plain and common as one would consider their next meal. His vendetta was great.
A pale hand ran through his golden hair as he quickened his pace, leaving the castle behind. Unknown to him, his violet eyes were narrowed in rage, tears brimming and threatening to spill. He passed some girl, but he barely noticed or care.

As a boy with golden hair pass right by her, Elphaba felt him sorta knock into her one arm. Anger bubbling up and flaring in her intense brown eyes, she turned on her combat heeled toe and called loudly, "Watch where you're going!
Although Elphaba knew it waas stupid to make a scene about somthing so small; tonight she just didn't care. Her emotions were just too close to the surface to shut off. So she let the only the only one she could go: Anger.

He glared poisonously back at the girl. He had no care for her troubles or issues right now, but even so... he knew grudges and enemies weren't what he needed.
"Sorry. Didn't see you," he announced dismissively. "Sorry."

Feeling her anger start to abate, Elphaba shrugged her shoulders. "Whatever," she said with an air of annoyance. Just as she was about to turn around again and head back up to the school, the fast approaching storm clouds broke open, sending a small drizzle of rain upon the grounds. The downfall would surely follow just minutes later..
Feeling just one drop of rain fall upon her uncovered green hand, Elphaba's brown eyes widened and she howled in pain as the green skin where the drop had hit sizzled. "Damn it!" she screamed as a few more fell upon her. She quickly tried to turn, but just found her uncovered face being pelted with droplettes.
If she did not get out of this quickly, the green girl could be seriously intrested. Or worse, killed.

His eyes widened in horror. He could hear the acidic effect water was having on her skin. Swiftly, he pulled out his wand, muttering his spell with a wave. The water started to bounce off her green skin.
((You know, that spell they use on Harry's glasses in Quidditch matches? That-a one.))

Shaking slightly both from the pain, and from the terror that had enveloped her, Elphaba turned slightly towards the boy who could have just saved her life. She was well equiped to do the spell, but under the sudden water, she had a tendency to loose all thought. Except for the pain.
"Thank you," she said weakly as she fought the urge not to vomit from the near miss. "Thanks..."

He shrugged.
"It's not a problem. Like I'm enough of a sadist to watch you burn acid-style to death."
He quickly sent her a suspicious glare. "What's with that, anyway? Who can react to water like that on THIS planet?"

"Obviously I can," Elphaba responded ironically with a small shrug of her cloak covered shoulders. Fidgeting slightly, for it was still drizzling slightly out, she glanced back at the school. She wanted to sprint up there and get to the nice dry common room, but she knew she owed this boy an explanation.
"Its been like that since I was born... " she said seriously. "I don't know why really, I just suspect it has somthing to do with my skin color..."
Still not feeling perfectly safe out there in the rain, despite the spell, Elphaba whipped out her wand and conjured up a large umbrella. That was better...

He scowled slightly. Another mystery. He hated mysteries; not having the answers or knowledge could lead to suffering, death and appearing foolish or lame.
Then, he remembered the reactions people had to his gold-coloured hair and purple eyes; his mother's people had dubbed him a demon and those strange, judging looks people always gave him...
"It must be hard," he murmured, "being so different..."

Elphaba felt her jaw drop suddenly and her eyes widen at the boy's empathy towards her. She had never had someone come out and just say that to her. Because of this, she felt herself nodding almost automatically before stopping suddenly.
"Yeah... It is," she said truthfully while she observed the boy for the first time. His stunning purple eyes and golden eyes made him stand out, and she smiled slightly at that. Maybe someone understood what it was like a bit.. "Few people get that. "

He nodded in agreement before turning to her with a smile. "I'm Lao."
He glanced away, brushing some dripping bangs from his face. His eyes rested upon the lake, watching the effect of the rain penetrating the surface roughly.

"Elphaba," came Elphaba's short reply as the rain water dripped off from her umbrella, and her tall witch's hat. She glanced again at the lake, remembering the nopw ironic fact that she had mere minutes ago been contemplating throwing herself in the lake...
"Its nice to..." she said quietly, pausing as a gust of strong wind blew her long raven black hair in front of her face. "Its nice to meet you, Lao."

Lao smiled softly, eyes glazing over slightly.
That's a first...
"You too, Elphaba," he replied. His voice was as soft as the small smile.

With another rare smile gracing Elphaba's green lips, she sighed finally. It seemed impossible that a chance occurrence like this had turned into somthing life threatening... which evolved into somthing good. It was rare that she found people she liked, and vice versa, but this kids, this Lao was one of the few she found herself liking.
After a few long moments of silence with her eyes trailing over the lake, Elphaba finally spoke up again. "Maybe we should go get inside... The storm is just going to get worse."
