The clock ticked loudly in her mind, each second inching more and more into future. The future...she couldn’t seem to think of that anymore. She couldn’t picture her own future anymore. When she was younger, she had so many dreams for the future and for herself. She always pictured herself becoming a teacher or having a family or even becoming an auror but now whenever she thought of any of this it was shrouded but her illness. She would not be able to do any such thing.
She also began thinking of Chris; he too had many high dreams. But because of her he could not accomplish them. Chris was such a protector and good brother that he always was by her side making sure she was healthy that he never did anything for himself anymore. He always left his classes to check up on her while she’s in the hospital instead of focusing on his studies.
Clover sat on the floor of the astronomy tower, her head against the stone wall of the castle. She breathed in the late night air and gazed up at the stars, sort of a blank expression on her face. It was clear in her mind that she no longer wanted to be here. She wanted to be gone. She wanted to gone forever. She was too upset to cry and too angry at herself to yell. She was shaking a lot but she wasn’t cold.
She didn’t know what to do anymore but all she saw was how she consistently ruined the lives of people she loved. She took her wand out of her pocket and looked at it, thinking of any spells that would affect herself; quickly and painlessly. She wasn’t thinking of how much sadness this would bring to Chris and Jude and possibly everyone in Hogwarts. No one knew her though so she couldn’t imagine people in the school being depressed over this.
It wasn’t really a secret though on how upset Clover seemed to be lately. She missed a lot of her classes and just tended to lock herself up in her room or in the library. She really hoped things would have gotten better but it never did. When things looked great it always came crashing down once more. She exhaled deeply and got up, going to the door of the astronomy room to see if anyone was around, watching her. Of course, it was way past curfew now and she should have been in bed an hour ago. She was worried that people had already sent to find her as she was not in bed.
When she thought no one was there, she turned back around, wiping at her eyes quickly and she sat back down on the floor grabbing her wand. She aimed the wand at herself quickly, breathing in and out as she was about to mutter out a spell to finish herself off. The only one she could really think of was sectusempra. It was not painless though so she was quite worried of this. She shut her eyes and imagined that the next thing she’d see would be her parents. She felt tears stinging down her face; no looking back now.

The ants were back.
Dane smiled through his ski mask, holding the can of RAID and keeping the cherry pie crumbs just out of reach. "Got you now, home wreckers." His finger was on the nozzle when-
He woke up.
"Dammit!" Dane growled, punching a fist into his pillow. His roommate muttered a choice word at him before turning over. Dane raised his head, glaring at his headboard. "Every time... every single time..."
Pie was good. Cherry pie was even better. Dream cherry pie?
Holy god. Can anyone say orgasmic?
Ants are gross. Red ants are even more gross. Dream red ants?
Holy god. Can anyone say NOT orgasmic?
And when dream red ants are stealing your dream cherry pie?
Action had to be taken.
For the past five nights, Dane had fallen asleep and, night by night, had inched his way into killing the red beasts. And finally, this the night of their certain destruction?
He wakes up.
With another growl, he sat up. There was no point in going back to bed and facing those ants... They'd probably just laugh at him. Dane walked out of his dorm room and down the stairs to the painting. She gave him 'tude ("You should be in bed, young man."), he gave her 'tude ("You should be doing something with your life like a regular painting. Hanging on a wall and looking ornate. Not being a secret door for a handful of kids."). Needless to say, he got out.
Dane felt like going up. Maybe he'd pay a visit to Dani. It really was rather inconvienent, her dorm being on the seventh floor and his being in the cellar.
But Dane Tigerthon liked a challenge.
He role-played. He was a jail escapee, hiding from the cops. In this case, prefects. Sneeking through corridors and going up stairs, he made his way to the seventh floor, taking about half an hour.
Triumphantly, he turned to go through the hallway that had the Fat Lady's picture when he stopped. That man's intuition was starting again. Just like the time he'd run into Elle on the library floor. He walked past the hallway and up a small set of stairs on the right.
Sure, Dane had been in the astronomy tower before. No big deal. Stars and crap. He still remembered when he was a first year and had been convinced that they were actually going into space. Disappointment had reared its ugly head that year...
He caught the movement of something on his left, almost like someone had whipped their head back out of sight behind the wall. Dane's eyebrows knitted together in puzzlement. Who was up here at this hour? Only a fool would be-
He stopped. He was up here...
Well, minor error. Dane Tigerthon was no fool.
He made his way over to edge of the wall like a robber before peeking his head around the corner, expecting to come face to face with this mysterious being. "AHA-" He exclaimed, pointing an accusatory finger at the person. There was nothing. "Huh." He looked down. There! The mysterious person was sitting on the floor! Dane shifted his finger's position, pointing down. "AHA AHA!"

Clover had closed her mind up, her eyes shut as well and she was about to do it. “Sect-” "AHA AHA!" She jumped and a bit of red sparks shut out of her wand and then disappeared. There she saw Dane pointing a finger at her. She jumped and looked at him confused. Why was he pointing at her? Did he piece two and two together? Why was he up here right now?
She bit her lip and slightly backed up against the wall, dropping her wand beside her. She didn’t say a single word to him but just stared up at him wide-eyed. Wasn’t this ironic? She was about to kill herself and the person who had caught her was someone who did kill themselves.
Did she truly catch her doing what she was about to do? She was feeling so emotions right now; fear, embarrassment, anger. Frightened, she backed away more against the wall. “Ah-...Can I help you?” She asked. She of course knew who he was. The entire school had quite a huge blow when they heard the news of his suicide.
She gave him a look as if she was begging him to leave. She couldn’t do this while he was in the room, watching her. His usually goofy antics which brought a smile to her face did not do so now. She ignored his comical pointing and hopping around.

Dane turned triumphant eyes on the shaken girl, who was now backing up against the wall. He had won. He had found her and saved the world. Please don't ask how this had changed from a simple trek to his girlfriend's room to saving the world by stopping a suicide attempt.
“Ah-...Can I help you?”
Dane straightened his imaginary fish tie. "The question is... can I help you?" He leaned against the wall, shoving his hands in his pajama pockets.
Clover gave him a pleading look, begging him to leave with her eyes. Dane huffed, offended. Everyone wanted him around. Everyone. He opened his mouth to reprimand her impertinence before stopping. "Hey, you're that flower girl! Clover!" He smiled. "Dani's told me about you!" He sat down next to her. "How've you been? What's up? What's the hap?" He looked above them and gave a low whistle. "Sure is nice with all these stars and stuff... makes you feel ... small, huh? Weird."
Dane looked back at her, this time noticing the look of distress on her face. He chuckled, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly. "I'm sorry, you look like you want to be alone..."

Clover stared at him confused and awkwardly when he straightened his imaginary fish tie. "The question is... can I help you?" She looked at him silently and was about to say something when he suddenly spoke once more.
"Hey, you're that flower girl! Clover! Dani's told me about you! How've you been? What's up? What's the hap?" She still stared at him confused. "Erm, nothing is really up...everything is quite down." She said quite bluntly. She couldn't help but notice how he felt so warm as he sat beside her. She was so cold though.
He looked above them and gave a low whistle. "Sure is nice with all these stars and stuff... makes you feel ... small, huh? Weird." She couldn't help but smile at this. She loved the stars. It was the only thing that seemed to make her smile lately and she loved it so much, she thought it was the only place that would accept her now.
She watched him scartch the back of his neck sheepishly. Was he shy? She never met a person at Hogwarts who was older than her but shy of her at the same time. "I'm sorry, you look like you want to be alone..." "I just reall yneed to clear my head." She whispered. Good, she was thinking of clearing her head, not just running out the window and jumping off the edge of the castle. "Did you ever feel as though the world is bearing down on you...all the time?" She asked.

For once, Dane Tigerthon felt rather foolish. He had never been really good with upset people. He was a clown, a comedian. He was all about the funny. You can turn this around, Tigerthon, he coached himself determinedly. By God, maybe you were sent here to help this girl! Like... like a super hero!
Super hero? Well, now he had to help Clover! It was his duty!
Duty... hahaha.
"I just really need to clear my head," Clover said. Dane nodded, pulling his knee loosely up to his chest and clasped his hands in front of him to hear her out. He may have not been good when it came to consolation, but he was a good listener. "Did you ever feel as though the world is bearing down on you...all the time?"
"Ugh, only like ALL the time," he told her dramatically, throwing an arm over his eyes. "I mean, all I hear is, 'Dane, oh my lord, you're so amazing!' or, 'Dane, marry me!' 'Dane, I want to have your children!' And it's like um...HELLO? I'm just one man! I can't be there all the time!" He shook his head exasperatedly, looking up at the sky. "Curse my good looks..."
Turning towards Clover, he tilted his head, suddenly serious. "But I guess that's what you have to deal with in order to be...human. If everything just came and went like we wanted to it'd be," he paused scratching his head. "I don't know... Stepford-like? Cheesy? The point being it'd spoil us. Expectations are only so meaningful, then they get boring." He wrinkled his nose. "And the day I start living in a boring world will be the day Ike washes his undies."

Clover frowned, she found that wasn’t that good of a thing to say to cheer her up. “Mm...well, all people say to me is ‘Filthy half-breed’ or ‘You’re hideous.’ Oh, and there’s my favourite ‘You’re the scum of the wizarding world’ Curse the way I was born...” She said and hissed slightly.
She sighed and hugged herself still a bit, her head down sadly. She listened to him still though, trying to get over his bad mood. “But I guess that's what you have to deal with in order to be...human. If everything just came and went like we wanted to it'd be, I don't know... Stepford-like? Cheesy? The point being it'd spoil us. Expectations are only so meaningful, then they get boring."
She nodded, it made a lot of sense. “I understand that we all have things we must overcome but why does it seem as though I have so much to get through in order to be human. I have to overcome so much. It’s getting ridiculous.” She said softly.

Clover frowned making Dane wince. “Mm...well, all people say to me is ‘Filthy half-breed’ or ‘You’re hideous.’ Oh, and there’s my favourite ‘You’re the scum of the wizarding world’ Curse the way I was born...”
This was akward... Dane felt like saying something that would dismiss him from the conversation. He immediately felt bad for thinking like that and reprimanded himself. He was a superhero, and he couldn't let Clover get down on herself! He patted her on the shoulder. "The way you were born isn't your fault, Clover," he said gently. "Babies are too innocent to be evil."
Except Damien from the Omen...
“I understand that we all have things we must overcome but why does it seem as though I have so much to get through in order to be human. I have to overcome so much. It’s getting ridiculous.” Her body posture made Dane's chest ache. Head down, hugging herself gently as if she was the only one who could console herself.
He wracked his brain for something to say. Sighing, he ran a hand messily through his hair. "Well, to be very honest I don't know what to say because I don't know you that well," he admitted sheepishly. "So I don't think a 'Things will look better in the morning' speech will make this better." He shrugged. "Heck, I don't think any speech can really make this better. But I'm not going to go for a 'Sometimes saying nothing at all is the best thing' either. 'cause it isn't." Dane knew this for a fact. He exhibited his firm disbelief in this phrase by interrupting and disrupting Professor Dubois's classes constantly.
Tilting his head to look up at the stars and planets across the ceiling, he twiddled his thumbs. "I'm sorry I'm not in on your 411. I was away for a while, which you... probably already knew." Talking about his absence from Hogwarts was still an open wound. Dane disliked talking about it and avoided it when he could. "Can you... tell me a little about yourself?"

She began thinking. How would she best answer his question of who she was. “Erm, I’ll try to be quick...I’m Chris Asher’s younger sister, I’m a half-breed who’s always sick and obsessed with astrology. I don’t really know what else.” She laughed a bit. She looked over at Dane. Was he actually being serious? She stared in amazement.
She sighed a bit and leaned against him, just needing someone to lean on a bit. “I-I don’t know, I started getting really upset when my best friend really...really...insulted me. He called me a filthy half-breed and left Hogwarts. He didn’t want to see me anymore.” She said. She truly was greatful that someone was there to simply listen to her problems.
It was always hard telling stuff like this to Chris simply because he acted so strongly. He’d immediately rush to Jude and knock him out. Quick action was the last thing that Clover wanted, which was ironic considering she was taking quick action to end her life no less than ten minutes prior.

“Erm, I’ll try to be quick...I’m Chris Asher’s younger sister-"
Dane pursed his lips together. "Don't know 'im."
"-I’m a half-breed who’s always sick and obsessed with astrology-"
"That's neato!"
"-I don’t really know what else.”
Dane really didn't either at the moment. He felt stupid and at the same time felt this moment in history should have been documented. Dane Tigerthon, Not Knowing What To Say For Once, Acts Accordingly By Not Saying Anything At All. It was bound to be first page material.
Clover sighed, leaning against him. “I-I don’t know, I started getting really upset when my best friend really...really...insulted me. He called me a filthy half-breed and left Hogwarts. He didn’t want to see me anymore.” Dane knew he probably should have felt more uncomfortable than anything. He had a girlfriend and somewhere in the Boyfriend Handbook touching other girls was strictly forbidden. But he didn't feel uncomfortable from Clover's touch. He leaned against her companionably like he would have with one of his guy friends. "You should have told him his FACE was a filthy half-breed and then it would have left Hogwarts. Then he could walk into walls and crap because he'd have no eyes and stuff... And we'd laugh."
Yeah, that would work. Headless Nick and No Faced Ex Best Friend. It was a school of magic. Anything could happen.
