Katharine stood outside the portal after a few other professors had gone through, trying to decide whether or not to follow them. It seemed illogical, really, just entering an unfamiliar pool of swirling colors, the most pronounced of which a poisonous looking, sickly green. Why would anyone want to walk through that?
On the other hand, Dane was missing. Dane, a good student and one of the rape victims, was missing, and this seemed the only logical place for him to have disappeared to.
Having finally made her decision, Katharine took a deep breath and plunged through the void. The odd sensation did not last long, but it seemed like it should have. She was spat out onto hard but damp earth and only barely landed on her feet. She stumbled a bit over something a little over knee-height and very hard. Once she righted herself, Katharine checked behind her for the portal, seeing nothing but darkness.
Pulling out her wand and wordlessly lighting it, Katharine checked around her to see where she was. There was no one around her. No one alive anyways, for the thing that Katharine had stumbled upon was a headstone. She was in a graveyard.
Gulping, Katharine looked down at the headstone. "Bulvius Gobstel" was the name etched into the stone. Underneath it, it said the dates of birth and death. The death date was five years after the current date.
This can't be right, Katharine thought and continued walking around the graveyard, peering at every headstone she passed. As she walked on, she felt an odd sort of pulling in her stomach, as though she knew she was going to find something bad.

Beau fell back on his butt, blinking his eyes hurriedly, scanning around the misty area for his Deputy Headmaster. Michael was no where in sight. If he was out of sight, maybe he was within hearing distance. The librarian took his time standing up. He looked around one last time.
"MICHAEL! MICHAEL!" His voice echoed all around him. Beau, startled, leapt back a bit. What is my voice bouncing off? The mist around him was blocking his sight of anything more than 10 feet away. The curved boulders and single rotting tree behind him left him speechless as to where he had landed but he was beginning to think it wasn't anywhere he wanted to be.
Beau began to step forward, looking carefully at the ground as he waslked. With each foot he walked, he got a new picture of what was around him. A twig, a dead crow, a group of rocks, a sanded down, flat stone. He stopped and looked at it again.
It's a headstone. He took another step closer, trying to make out the inscription. His stride faltered as he read it.
"DeLanie... My little sweetheart." He continued reading. "Loved mother and wife, your legacy will never die--" His soft voice trailed off with the dates. "How is that possible? That's nine years from now! She's only 14! She can't be a wife, let alone a mother!"
His boot flung dirt at the crumbling stone and he ran. He couldn't look at it anymore. His baby sister couldn't die. She just couldn't.

Cypress growled to herself.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!" she roared, "First, we go through a portal, now we're all supposed to be dead?!" How preposterous. No, no, it wasn't...
Surrounding her was a desolate wasteland of a graveyard. Death, death, death. Everything was dead. No living plant, animal, or human. In fact, even the air was dead. No breeze, nothing... She had seen too many names she recognized. Even her own. The epitaph was a confusing one.
"My dearest Cypress, that her efforts were never in vain," she read aloud. Maybe one of her fellow professors would happen to hear her. Not likely, but still...
"Vain? But, I'm not dea-eea-eaaaaaaaah-HOLY FRAK?!" she screamed, "BUT THAT TIME IS NOT RIGHT! And... and even so... I'm... I'm going to..."
No, it couldn't be right. That was years later. But still... Tears welled in her eyes, but she cleared them and finished reading.
"A beloved wife, mother, and friend," she fell to her knees and punched the dirt beside her, "No...... That can't be.... I die and leave a family behind?!"
It was beginning to become too much. It made no sense, even to the ex-Head Auror. She wasn't from the Department of Mysteries, after all. However, she was definitely starting to feel as insane as one of those kooks.

Bradly grunted, glancing around him. It was gloomy..and dark...and creepy. The list went on and on. As usual, his ferret Mordred sat on his shoulder. "I'd best be goin' t' find t' others..."He whispered, bring the scarf up around his neck. He glanced about, eyes flashing up and down the rows and rows of graves.
First, he had dropped into a portal that could have led to hell for all he knew...and it landed him in one of the last places he wanted to be. A graveyard. He had always hated graveyards...they reminded him of his brother...
With another grunt, he form shifted. He was always more comfortable in his dog form, able to trot along at a much faster rate...it just felt better. He moved along silently, his giant paws romping across the soft and beaten grass. Suddenly...something caught his eye. Whats that?Mordred said, pointing a small foot toward a gravestone. It looked fairly old, older than the other graves in the area. Bradly trotted over, sitting in the grass. Underneath the old, giant vines layed the name Nute Dickens. He died a wrongful death.
Bradly started, shifting back to his human form without meaning too. He sat there, cringing at the grave. He knew his brother was dead....he had killed him himself....and he regretted it every day. Bradly took a step back, allowing Mordred to scurry up his leg."But but...that can't be right...my brothers body was never found..somethin' doesn't feel right lad..."He said, his eyes flashing back to the ferret. "Somethin's very wrong..."

There were countless graves here, Katharine noticed as she passed them. None she knew, though. Walking around the seemingly deserted graveyard, Katharine got the impression that she was alone. She had never been alone for more than an hour or two in her life, and it was not an easy thing. She'd always had trouble dealing with it, and always found herself afraid. Katharine's feelings of alone-ness soon ended at the sound of a booming voice.
"MICHAEL! MICHAEL!"
It was a voice she knew, however not well enough to be able to say who it was. Smiling, Katharine walked towards the source of the voice, wand alight. It was a while before she finally came upon a man standing over a gravestone, reading aloud what it said. He sounded upset, dumbstruck, and confused all at the same time. Then he kicked up some dirt and ran. Katharine frowned. Perhaps she'd scared him off.
"HOLY FRAK?! BUT THAT TIME IS NOT RIGHT!"
Katharine whirled around towards the source of a voice she knew only too well. It was the voice of Cypress Midna. Despite their drunken quabbles, Katharine was glad she was there. Grinning yet again, the nurse ran in the direction of the voice, wand held out in front of her.
Finally, she spotted the silhouette of a woman on her knees beside another headstone, fist pressed firmly into the dirt as though she'd just punched it. "Cypress?" She asked kindly, coming to a stop and continuing forward slowly. "Is that you?"
Katharine walked up behind the woman and squinted to see what the gravestone read. It was hard in the dark so she held her wand out to it. Cypress Midna. Katharine gasped. Cypress had found her own grave. How spooky. Then she moved her wand down to the date. "That can't be right," she said and straightened up. "Are you alright, Cypress?"

In his dispair, Beau's lack of control over his powers showed itself. His body began to morph, suddenly giving him a dark mask around his eyes. The air on his body grew longer and thicker, covering him everywhere. The fur became lightly stripped with a darker stripped extrention known as a tail. His frame became smaller and soon he was running along on four delicate feet with his round body swinging as he moved.
He didn't care where he was going. He just needed away from that grave. His paws carried him far over the dusty, sonte-filled lot. His eyes were closed and he was trusting his other senses to tell him when something was near.
They didn't tell him soon enough.
Beau was sent rolling backwards, head over heels after his small body collided with one much larger. He recovered himself, landing on his paws and sending a danger-filled message to whatever it was he had hit. He spat and hissed, not wanting to open his eyes to the dust forming a cloud around him. When a bit of the dust settled in his coarse fur, his eyes blinked open and his hissing stopped immediatly.
In front of his was one of the other staff members, the Potions Master, Bradly. Beau's form didn't take long to change back to his human form. He looked at Bradly, startled.
" 'Lo, Bradly. Fancy meeting you here," he said, trying to make up for his sudden intrusion.

Bradly's eyes shot over to Beau, but they seemed different. A haze was around him and his upper lip curled into a snarl, showing his newly grown fangs. Suddenly, he blinked and shook his head."Sorry Beau...I don't like being startled."He laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head." So...y' here to?"He asked, tilting his head. "Seems a bit strange...an' creepy."He rubbed his shoulders as though he was cold.
His eyes fell back down onto the grave and he shuddered again, moving to the side. "This may sound weird...but there is no life 'ere at all...I mean...ya...I know its a graveyard...but it's just not..living. There aren't any fae."He looked over, smiling slightly."I'm Irish...I get th' sight from me mum's side. And there are none of the Old Folk here...that means its dead. Real dead."He chuckled against nervously. He looked very out of place.

"Are you alright, Cypress?"
A voice. An attack? Cypress whipped around, and in a paranoid panic, brought her wand nearly an inch from the person's nose. Katherine's.
"AVAD- Agh!" she yelled, dropping her wand and jumping, "Katherine, I'm so sorry, I- guh, um... Sorry... I... I've never seen anything like this... Not even at the Ministry..."
Cypress was at a total loss. Get a GRIP, Cype... You're not supposed to be freaking out like this! Not even faced with your own mysterious death. She gave a small nod and a shake of her head to rid herself of her panic, and replaced the fearful expression with one of solemnity.
"We have to figure out what's going on," she said calmly, scooping up her wand, and, with her other hand, taking a swig from her concealed flask of firewhisky, "This has to be the portal the kids came in through. They'll be around here. I'm sure of it. Just keep an eye out for anything dangerous. I'm sure there's at least one dementor around here."
Turning back to her gravestone, she sneered at it. Dead, am I? I think not!
"Confringo!!" she growled, jabbing her wand at the gravestone, which in seconds, was in violently conceived pieces, "I am NOT dead, and refuse to be!"
She turned back to Katherine and gave a small smile, "I feel MUCH better now. Let's find the others, eh?"

"AVAD- Agh!" Katharine jumped, aware of the fact that Cypress Midna had almost just used an unforgivable on her. She'd just almost been killed. Then Katharine wondered what it would be like to die. Certainly not pleasant, depending on how you died. If you were AK'd, then I guess it'd be quick and painless, but something like stabbing? The thought gave Katharine the chills, and she vowed to herself never to stab anyone. (*cough* Read FK.) "Katharine, I'm so sorry, I- guh, um...Sorry... I... I've never seen anything like this... Not even at the Ministry..."Katharine smiled at Cypress, glad that she realized what she was doing in time to stop herself from killing her coworker. "It's fine," she said and patted Cypress's shoulder. "I'm sorry for coming up behind you like that. This is really freaky. I think some other people are here, as well." She paused and looked around. "I saw someone, and it was a man. Maybe it was Michael?" She smiled hopefully then mentally slapped herself. Why was Michael coming to mind at a time like this? "We have to figure out what's going on," Katharine nodded. Duh, she thought but decided not to voice her thoughts. This was not the time for sarcasm. "This has to be the portal the kids came in through. They'll be around here. I'm sure of it. Just keep an eye out for anything dangerous. I'm sure there's at least one dementor around here."The thought of dementors gave Katharine the shivers. The only time she'd ever seen a dementor was the time she visited a wrongly accused friend in Azkaban, and that was years ago. Come to think of it, it was rather chilly and depressing in this area. But they must find the kids. Katharine nodded at Cypress, glad that she was no loger using dangerous magic. "Confringo! I am NOT dead, and refuse to be!"Nevermind the no dangerous magic thing, Katharine thought as she shielded her face from flying stone. Once the stone and dust had settled, Katharine removed her hands and looked around at Cypress. "I feel MUCH better now. Let's find the others, eh?"Katharine smiled weakly. That was a good plan. "Yeah," she said hoarsely and began to walk, holding her lighted wand at each headstone they passed, thanking God each time she recognized no name. Then, she came upon one and froze. Her wandless hand flew to her mouth to prevent her from shrieking in shock. BRIGITTA CORWIN

From his uncomfortable position on his bum in the dirt, Beau could see that Bradly was sensing something strange about this place, this graveyard of horrors. He made a mental note to find out what year this was and where the graveyard was.
."Sorry Beau...I don't like being startled. So...y' here to?" Bradly scratched at his head like a scared child might cling to their mother. He was nervous. Beau looked at him sympathetically.
"It would appear so," he muttered before the other man continued.
"Seems a bit strange...an' creepy. This may sound weird...but there is no life 'ere at all...I mean...ya...I know its a graveyard...but it's just not..living. There aren't any fae. I'm Irish...I get th' sight from me mum's side. And there are none of the Old Folk here...that means its dead. Real dead." Beau was now confuesed. He wasn't sure what his fellow professor was talking about but he wanted to know more. What did he mean by 'fae' and 'the Old Folk'? It was obvious that this place was dead, there were no living plants or animals in sight except for the two men and they were not suppose to be there.
"Mind explainin' a bit, Bradly? I'm not so sure I know wha--" He stopped at the sudden screech of a spell. His head whipped around looking for the source but the only answer he got was the fading echo. Without another glance back at the redhead, he scrambled to his feet and ran toward the sound. There were faint words he caught but nothing to identify the owner of the voice.
"--ind the others, eh?" He knew that voice now. Cypress. A smile came over him at the thought of finding someone else he knew. Then he remembered he had already found someone. He turned his head to look if Bradly was following him. It didn't matter much, they would meet up eventually either way. He turned back around and continued walking the last few feet to Cypress.
He caught sight of her when he rounded a tree. There was another woman with her. Katherine. She was holding her hand over her mouth and staring wide-eyed at one of the thousands of graves. He approached with a friendly smile, greeting the women with a "Hello." He turned at Katherine's side to look at the grave she had made so obvious with her gawking. It was then that he read the name on the worn stone. Brigitta Corwin.
Beau looked up at Katherine and then at Cypress.
"Why that's... That's Brigitta's grave. She isn't dead... Is she?" he asked, suddenly filled with curiousity and worry.

"Mind explainin' a bit, Bradly? I'm not so sure I know wha--" Bradly's own head shot from Beau toward the startled screams so fast that the crack of his neck bones was audible for about 10 feet. Wincing in pain, he rubbed his neck. "Great...jus' great." He watched Beau run off toward the muffled voices and sighed."Might as well."
He morphed into his English Mastiff form and bounded off after Beau. When he came upon Katharine and Cypress, he stopped. He didn't bother shifting back, leaning down to sniff the ground around the grave. Brigitta? He thought, sitting back on his haunches. His eyes then cast over to the destroyed remains of the grave near Katherine. And that ones not even readable. What happened here?He asked himself.Did someone have a party?
With a troubled furrow of his doggy brow, he shifted back to his normal form, his arms crossed."What a bloody place..."He said, his eyes shifting around. Mordred stuck his head out from Bradly's pocket and scurried up his arm and onto the Potion Master's shoulder."Mordred..hurry off and see if you can find any others..."He whispered to the ferret. Mordred gave him a quick glare and bounded off his shoulder and into the darkness.
He quickly turned around, looking at the other professors."Okay...I know this is probably gonna sound wierd and a bit...I dunno...out of place...but I don' think we should be standing around here. There's a haze about here...and I don' like it."His eyes fell to Katharine and then quickly looked away. He knew that Cypress didn't like him very much...but he wasn't going to give her any reason to not like him any more. He began to speak again."We should try to see if there's anyone else here...cause my Sight definantly says we're not alone...I mean...c'mon...they can't REALLY be dead...can they?We just saw her..."He said simply, his eyes flashing back to Brigitta's grave. He shuddered.Great job Bradly...go off on one of your wierd little rambles...

Cypress watched as Katherine found a new grave. One for Brigitta.
"Alright, watch out, Kath," she mumbled, "Defodio!" Pointing her wand to the ground in front of what used to be her grave, the spell carved a huge chunk of Earth from the ground, causing it to blast away. She did it again, until she dug a hole she figured was approximately six or seven feet. A steel casket lay partially uncovered. It looked rather new, despite the dirt.
"I don't suggest you look, just in case there is a body here, if you don't want to see one," she said, a solemn look on her face, "But there's only one way to find out why these are here."
"Why that's... That's Brigitta's grave. She isn't dead... Is she?"
As she defiled her own grave, she looked over, and found Beau by Katherine, staring at Brigitta's grave, or at least what looked like it.
Turning, she looked at it for a few moments and glared. At this point, the graves were more of a nuisance to her - an annoyance.
"Wingardium Leviosa," she mumbled, and allowed it to rise, unchecked, into the air. The further it went, the better. She had no intention of reversing the direction or slowing the speed of ascent. She watched it rise into the air with a strange feeling of accomplishment and relief.
"These graves, in my opinion, are nothing. Look. This was supposed to be mine, but I'm standing right bloody here!" she growled, "I think they're some sort of psychological warfare... Just here to bother us, like those bloody Turn back messages in Muggle movies... I'm not bothered. Rather, I'm very annoyed."
She pointed her wand at the ground once more and called, "Defodio." Then jumping down, she opened the casket.
"AIGH!! Stupefy! STUPEFY!! A-AVADA KEDAVRA!!" she called once, then again, screaming it, "GET AWAY!! PETRIFICUS TOTALUS!!" As she scrambled back up to the edge of the hole, her face was stricken with terror.
"I-Infer-ri..." she said, and curled up into a ball. Cypress had an immense fear of Inferi, and lost her wits when confronted with one. It was her only real weakness.
"I... I can't... I-it's-s d-d-d-down there... B-buryyy it... P-please!!" she cried, shivering profusely, "I-I hate t-them... P-pleaseee.."

"Alright, watch out, Kath. Defodio!"
Katharine moved out of the way as dirt flew every which way, shielding her eyes from the flying grit. Once she felt no more dirt hitting her, she moved her hands and peered down into the newly dug hole. There was a coffin. But--wasn't there usually a cement block placed on top of the graves to protect from grave robbers and such? Or weren't they just encased in come concrete thing? Maybe this was a cheap graveyard.
"I don't suggest you look, just in case there is a body here, if you don't want to see one. But there's only one way to find out why these are here."
Katharine scoffed. "I'm a nurse," she said, almost in a "duh" sort of tone. "I've been trained to do autopsies, I've watched a student die, I've handled rapes. I can deal with a body." Sighing, she stood back a little more, assuming that Cypress would lift the casket.
"Why that's... That's Brigitta's grave. She isn't dead... Is she?"
Katharine pursed her lips and nodded at Beau, then shook her head. "No, she's not dead. You saw her earlier today, did you not? At the meeting?" She smiled and turned back to Cypress.
"Okay...I know this is probably gonna sound wierd and a bit...I dunno...out of place...but I don' think we should be standing around here. There's a haze about here...and I don' like it. We should try to see if there's anyone else here...cause my Sight definantly says we're not alone...I mean...c'mon...they can't REALLY be dead...can they? We just saw her..."
"No, she's not dead," Katharine said, not having to look to know that it was Bradly Dickens who was speaking.
"Wingardium Leviosa,"
Katharine watched with eager eyes as the casket rose into the air. She was anxious to see what lie within the coffin. Was it really Brigitta? But how could it be? Unless...nah.
"These graves, in my opinion, are nothing. Look. This was supposed to be mine, but I'm standing right bloody here! I think they're some sort of psychological warfare... Just here to bother us, like those bloody Turn back messages in Muggle movies... I'm not bothered. Rather, I'm very annoyed. Defodio."
The coffin lowered and Katharine watched anxiously as Cypress neared it. Katharine herself shrieked a bit when Cypress did. She assumed that it was a trap and that there was someone in the casket, jumping out to kill them. Although, if they had been, they were dead, stunned, and petrified by now. Cypress shot curses at them like there was no tomorrow. Then she assumed fetal position.
"I-Infer-ri...I... I can't... I-it's-s d-d-d-down there... B-buryyy it... P-please!! I-I hate t-them... P-pleaseee.."
Katharine scowled, her heart still racing. How could there possibly be inferi? There was no one around to control them! Not to mention no one insane enough to control them. Sighing, Katharine neared the edge and peered down into the hole. There was no movement. Smiling, she jumped down into the hole, lit her wand, and looked into the grave. What she saw didn't make her scream, it only made her sick to her stomach.
It was Brigitta's body. Her dead body. Perfectly preserved and fresh. Feeling nauseous, Katharine backed into the dirt wall of the grave and took a deep breath. "Relax, Cypress," she called up. "It's just the lifeless body of our headmistress. Nothing to worry about." After lathering on the sickened sarcasm, Katharine grabbed some protruding roots and climbed out of the hole.
"It's her," Katharine said, gulping and swaying a bit, feeling lightheaded. "It's Brigitta. She's dead."
Nothing you could do to stop it now. Katharine swayed even more and then all went blank. She fell backwards into the grave, unconscious, undoubtedly hitting her head on the steel grave.

Beau stepped closer to the grave to confirm his thought but Katherine confirmed it before he could so much as look, much to his relief.
"No, she's not dead. You saw her earlier today, did you not? At the meeting?" Beau stepped back again. If she wasn't dead, he was in no way interested in seeing what was in this grave. Bradly had come up with him, muttering something. A light rustling came next but Beau didn't want to figure out what had caused it.
"No, she's not dead." Beau's attention snapped back to the nurse. She was certainly handling herself well. Of course, she had been trained using dead bodies, cadavers. He was figureing on her being the one to bring up the casket and look in it but the other woman he hadn't noticed, Cypress, did so first.
"Wingardium Leviosa." He shifted back again, farther away from the grave and bumped into Bradly.
"Sorry, Bradly," he muttered, unaware he hadn't been loud enough to hear. The casket dropped with a cloud of dust and a deep thump on the dead grass. He stared at it, unblinking, until the dust cleared. There was a casket, just about the right size too. He coughed on the dust but never let his eyes stray from the wooden box before them. He wanted desperatly to know what or who was in the box if their Headmistress was still alive. He just didn't want to see a rotting body.
Defodio."
Cypress moved down and opened the casket. It seemed that something had startled her for she was yelling something and then scrambling away. The fearless Cypress huddled and crawled into a far-from-neat ball on the ground. Beau moved forward to crouch beside her.
"Cypress wh--" he started but she cut him off, her words trembling.
"I-Infer-ri...I... I can't... I-it's-s d-d-d-down there... B-buryyy it... P-please!! I-I hate t-them... P-pleaseee.." He looked up at the other two with a worried look. Katherine edged her way to the side of the grave and crept down. He saw the light from her wand and he too crept to the edge. But, Beau only peered in as Katherine began to look sick. He gaged at the sight of his headmistress laying in the earth, stone cold, pale, and dead. He pulled back and sat back on his knees, holding his head down with his eyes closed in case he felt himself about to puke. He got the feeling seconds later and crawled off a few feet away and reched.
Beau missed what Katherine had said to the other woman. He gave a few dry heaves after the first wave and sat back taking deep breaths. When he felt sure he was safe from throwing up again, he lifted himself on his trembling legs and walked back over to the other three. He sat down next to Cypress, propping up one knee and laying his corresponding arm over it. He continued breathing deeply and had his head tilted back and eyes closed.
It's her. It's Brigitta. She's dead."
He nodded half-heartedly as if to confirm this. He looked up at Katherine.
"So what does this mean? Are we in the future?" He had read about the portals that don't lead to another world. There were some that led to the future or the past. Since Brigitta would not have been dead in the past and be alive in the present, he assumed they were in the future. The only problem was, how do they get back to the present and what are they going to do about Brigitta's death. He looked back to the head stone and began to do his thing. He read.
"R.I.P. Brigitta Corwin. Headmistress 2042-2047. Killed in action in service to the school. Died December 31, 2047." He frowned and looked over to the group. "She dies at the end of this year."
It was then Katherine took a fall into the grave. He leapt up but missed catching her by a few inches. She fell on top of Brigitta's body and then rolled to the side. He pulled his wand from his pocket. Wingardium Leviosa. Her body lifted from the grave and he set her down at Bradly's feet.
